The BCC - Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Verona e Vicenza is the main sponsor of the Artistic Season 2023: the funds allocated will support operas, symphonic concerts and shows for families from 22 January to 31 December ∙ Primas and timeless classics, special collaborations, great performers and young international talents, in a complete relaunch of the artistic and technical activities and skills of Fondazione Arena in view of the long-awaited Festival number 100.

This is the first time for the partnership that will link one of the leading banks in the area to the artistic excellence of the Veronese Fondazione. The BCC di Verona e Vicenza operates directly in 52 municipalities and 116 other neighbouring municipalities in the provinces of Vicenza, Verona, Mantua, Padua, Trento, Rovigo and Treviso, relying on the work of more than 400 employees and a membership base of more than 18,000 members. Itis funded by direct contributions of more than EUR 2.23 billion and managed assets worth more than EUR 5.1 billion in 2021. The bank's total capital ratio, an indicator of solidity, is over 22%, one of the highest in the Veneto region and within the Iccrea Cooperative Banking Group to which it belongs. The bank is chaired by Flavio Piva.

"Our commitment to supporting culture remains one of the main objectives of our action in the area," comments Flavio Piva, Chairman of BCC Verona and Vicenza. - This collaboration for the financing of the 2023 artistic season of the Teatro Filarmonico is a great added value to all the initiatives that BCC di Verona e Vicenza promotes for the social base, the territory and the communities. Ours is a reality that has retained its capacity for dialogue, listening, relating with people, and maintaining a physical presence. The entrepreneurs, individuals and families who work with us recognise how crucial it is to find a trusted partner who can accompany their personal, but also professional and entrepreneurial growth with competence and passion. At the same time,” continues Piva,”'for social work, for culture, for solidarity, the approach must always be synergic and capable of multiplying the talents we have. From this premise, we have taken steps to back the Fondazione Arena in a path of artistic quality that is harmonious, that supports merit and quality, and that above all can help the city and the territory grow in all sectors: from art to music, from culture to tourism, the restaurant trade, and other, related activities. We are aware that our willingness to carry out a project like this, which is of strategic importance in terms of results for the city and its image in the world, can be a moment of great pride not only for our Bank, but also for our entire social base, which recognises itself in our values and mission."

"Part of the Fondazione's long 'healing' process," adds Cecilia Gasdia, General Manager and Artistic Director of the Fondazione Arena di Verona, "from the 2018 rehabilitation to the two-year pandemic, has consisted in finding sponsors, partners and private individuals that not only support the Festival at the Arena but also the activities of the Teatro Filarmonico. This is where we nurture the talents of the youngest artists and develop all the good practices needed to help our artistic, technical and administrative resources pass on such an immense heritage for more than eight months every year. We are therefore immensely grateful to the vision of BCC Verona e Vicenza, represented by Flavio Piva, which provides concrete and tangible support for the activities of Fondazione Arena that are most deeply rooted in the territory and focus on it, all year round."

The curtain at the Teatro Filarmonico will rise with the inauguration of the OPERA SEASON, which will feature a total of six performances from 22 January to 23 December, including one with a double title, including well-known works and genuine rarities, offered for the first time in Verona. There will be four performances of each opera, with the first and last on Sunday afternoons, and the middle two on the Wednesday and Friday evenings. The programme begins with Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart's masterpiece in a new staged version with direction, sets and costumes by Ivan Stefanutti and major voices directed by Francesco Ommassini: the event is included in the rich programme of the 4th Mozart in Verona festival jointly promoted by the Municipality of Verona, Accademia Filarmonica and various city institutions. This will be followed by a tribute to Franco Zeffirelli on the exact 100th anniversary of his birth with Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, an emblematic title for the Amphitheatre but on stage for the first time at the Filarmonico from 12 February with direction and sets created in 2001 by the Florentine maestro for the theatre in Busseto (Verdi's birthplace). From 26 March, Massenet's Werther, from Goethe's text that symbolises Romanticism (performed once at the Filarmonico in 1978) will be performed, directed by Stefano Vizioli. The long-awaited Italian premiere of Hamlet, suspended in 2020 by the pandemic, will arrive on 22 October: the opera, the artistic summa of Veronese composer and conductor Franco Faccio (1840-'91) on a libretto by Boito, will see the light in the new Fondazione Arena staging, all entrusted to illustrious Veronese professionals, with the direction of Paolo Valerio and 27-year-old Alessandro Bonato as conductor. Following its successful live streaming in 2021, from 19 November the diptych that combines Il Parlatore Eterno, a comedic gem by Ponchielli, at its first staging, with Puccini's intense one-act piece Il Tabarro. Both productions are staged by the Fondazione Arena and directed respectively by Stefano Trespidi and Paolo Gavazzeni with Piero Maranghi, will meet the public in presence; the podium will host Gianna Fratta. 2023 will end with Verdi's passionate A  Masked Ball, absent from the winter programme for twenty years and presented from 17 December in the Teatro Regio di Parma's staging, featuring the restoration of Carmignani's 1913 sets and brought to the fore by Marina Bianchi's direction and Francesco Ivan Ciampa's conducting.

Alongside the Opera programme, Fondazione Arena di Verona has also planned a wide-ranging 2023 SYMPHONIC SEASON with 12 two-performance programmes from 24 February to 2 December. These will feature the Orchestra of the Fondazione Arena di Verona led by internationally renowned conductors and soloistsand, many talented young artists making their Verona debut, including Angius, Cadario, Cañón-Valencia, Korchak, Krylov, Maionchi, Manoshvili, Monzò, Ommassini, Onofri, Paszkowski, Peleggi, Pirolli, Principe, Ranno, Roma, Salerno, Santonja, Stier, Tirotta, and the contribution of soloists hailing from the first chairs of the Arena Orchestra. The events will begin under the flag of Mahler with the famous Fifth Symphony, and continue with concertos, serenades, overtures, suites, preludes, and ballets, often premiered at the Teatro Filarmonico. Johann Sebastian Bach, Bartók, Beethoven, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Milhaud, Mozart, Poulenc, Purcell, Rachmaninov, Saint-Saëns, Schubert, Schumann, Šostakovič, Richard Strauss, Stravinsky. There will be new forays into contemporary music, with pieces by Berio, Bosso, Gulda, Pärt, as well as important appointments with symphonic-vocal music that will engage the Arena Choir, directed by Maestro Trabacchin, such as in Rossini's great Messa di Gloria or Fauré's Requiem. All concerts will be held twice, on Friday at 8 pm and Saturday at 5 pm. In addition, the traditional New Year's Eve Concert on 31 December (not included in the season ticket) is confirmed, perfect for those who wish to welcome the arrival of 2024 with a veritable musical celebration.

The Artistic Season 2023 continues with the Arena Young initiatives for school students and staff, universities and academies, including previews, open rehearsals, performances, concerts, listening guides and dedicated meetings. In the autumn, the great novelty of last year will return, the Tutti insieme al Filarmonico review: two new shows dedicated to families on Saturday afternoons (28 October and 25 November) with programmes and timetables designed for the first time in family theatre, even with the youngest children.

Season tickets, new ticket books of 3, 6 and 9 dates, as well as single tickets for each sector of the Teatro Filarmonico are already on sale, at the same prices as 2022, concessions for under-30s, over-65s, clubs, and special promotions for season ticket holders that include the chance of a seat in the stalls at two pivotal events of the 100th Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2023: the inaugural Aida and the Teatro alla Scala Gala.
