Exactly a hundred years from the establishment in Italy of Women’s Rights Day, Fondazione Arena presents a special concert realized by the Arena’s artists.
The concert, conducted by the young newcomer Chiara Casarotto, features a varied elegant program ranging from romantic German elegies through refined French works to English vocal music of the 1900s.
Soloists and female voices of the Chorus of the Fondazione Arena will be accompanied by the string quartet of the Arena Orchestra and Chorusmaster Ulisse Trabacchin at the piano.
In fact, with a view to offering the most effective aspects and most representative atmospheres of the various musical cultures in Europe at the end of the 1800s, the program goes from the delicate psalm by Rheinberger to the captivating colours of French music of the same period: the mysterious night of Saint-Saëns, Massenet’s charming flowers and Fauré’s Madrigal.
The program ends with nature as seen by late Romantic English composer Elgar and a rarely performed treat: the Part Songs in which the highly original Holst explores untraditional sounds, unusual expressive artifices, dissonances and innovative harmonies but still maintains a typically British cantabile nature.
The program will be completed by some pieces that are better known and more popular with the general public: Brahms’ late romantic climax with the transcription of the third movement of Symphony N° 3, the duo for violoncello and piano Après un rêve by Fauré and Massenet’s extremely famous Meditation for violin and piano from the opera Thaïs.

On March 8th the Teatro Filarmonico will host the “Afghan female cyclists” who escaped from their country thanks to an extraordinary worldwide solidarity campaign, along with the Road to Equality Association, which has enabled them to begin a new life, and they will attend the special concert realized by Fondazione Arena with the artists of the Chorus and Orchestra of the Arena conducted by Chiara Casarotto.
The educational value of this has become a starting point for spreading awareness of the issue, in order that the experience can become a stimulus to take action and be open to inclusion and integration. The story of the Afghan female cyclists and their relatives, an example of courage and full of the will for liberation, intends being a message of hope that is even stronger in this period, in which international attention highlights the crisis of peace and the failure of people to live together peacefully.
By means of music and its universal values, Fondazione Arena intends supporting its firm opposition to all forms of violence.
