Join the Ministry of Culture and the Fondazione Arena di Verona on 7 June 2024, as we celebrate the recognition of opera as a vital contribution to cultural heritage in an extraordinary gala evening broadcast worldwide.
On 6 December 2023, “The Practice of Opera Singing in Italy” was officially placed on the UNESCO’s prestigious Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list. This acknowledgment follows dedicated efforts by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Committee for the Safeguarding of the Practice of Opera Singing in Italy, led by Federico Domenico Eraldo Sacchi. The committee boasts the participation of prominent institutional bodies in Italian opera, including ANFOLS (National Association of Opera-Symphonic Foundations), to which the Fondazione Arena di Verona proudly belongs.
Today, 7 February 2024, the Fondazione Arena di Verona has been selected by the Ministry of Culture to mark this achievement. Verona Arena will host an extraordinary gala, broadcast worldwide and titled “La Grande Opera Italiana Patrimonio dell'Umanità" (Celebrating Italian Opera: the Cultural Heritage of Humanity). Maestro Riccardo Muti conducts 150 orchestra professionals and over 300 choir artists, in an evening that promises to be a star-studded celebration, officially launching the 101st Arena Opera Festival in a glorious tribute to opera singing.
